Gregory Keer, MFA, Film Studies

Gregory Keer is an educator and writer with a particular emphasis on motion pictures. As an educator, Keer currently teaches Film Studies to introduce high school students to the cultural history of film as well as the technical and artistic achievements made in various genres. The course asks students to analyze films and then apply their learning to projects of their own. The class’s group project, New Jew Noir, was the first narrative feature produced at NCJHS to be exhibited at the school’s Hamifgash student film program. Prior to teaching film, Keer taught English (British and American) as a result of a lifelong passion for storytelling that has included a B.A. in English Literature/Creative Writing from UCLA.

Keer has written numerous screenplays for producers at Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, NBC, and ABC. Among the mostly comedic stories he has developed are stories of Jewish American culture (from the world of delis to politics) and familial bonds. Over the past 12 years, Keer has penned a monthly parenting column called Family Man®, which has earned four Parenting Publications of America awards in the Humor and Personal Essay categories. The columns have also been the anchor for his online publication, FamilyManOnline.com, and have led to appearances with PBS, FOX News, Washington Post Radio, USA Today, Parenting magazine, Newsday, Disney’s Family.com, and EducationWorld.com. Additionally, Keer’s writing has been published in textbooks on parenthood and education.
