This course works toward the development of a comprehensive portfolio that meets the requirements for submission to the College Board’s Advanced Placement reviewers. Students sustain an investigation of two portfolio components: Breadth and Concentration.
In building the portfolio, students experience a variety of concepts, techniques and approaches designed to help them demonstrate a range of abilities and versatility problem solving and ideation. These variable ideas can be demonstrated through the use of many different media. This will constitute the Breadth section of their portfolios.
For the Concentration section of their portfolios, students investigate an idea of personal interest through a series of sequential visual images--images growing from images-- to explore in greater depth a particular visual concern. Two major challenges here are the ability to sustain interest, as they will explore in depth an expanded idea, and most importantly to demonstrate a visual evolution of their idea.
The course is designed for students who are genuinely interested in the practical experience of art and wish to develop mastery in these areas.
